PATHOLOGY LABORATORY

At the Pathology Laboratory of our Instutition, systemic necropsy is conducted on infected or dead animals coming from the provinces under its responsibility and in some cases, from throughout Turkey. According to the anamnesis data and findings detected in necropsi, samples are also distributed to other laboratories for bacterial, viral, parasitic and toxic diagnosis. To reach a conclusion samples taken from tissues carrying suspicion of disease are stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin and Immunoperoxidase based on World Animal Healt Organisation (OIE) standards.

Furthermore Ziehl Neelsen, levaditi, methyl green pyronin, giemsa, gram, machiavelli, stamp, van gieson staining is performed at our laboratory. In histologically suspicious cases, Immunoperoxidase staining which is a more advanced technique, is used where necessary for the purpose of confirmation. This technique enables the diagnosis of BSE, Scrapie(Prion disease); Listeria monocytogenes, Haemophylus somunus, Brucella melitensis etc. (Bacterial diseases); Rinderpest-RP, Peste Des Petits Ruminants-PPR, Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis-IBR, Pesti virus infections, Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD) and Border Disease, Rabies etc. (Viral Diseases); Neospora caninum, Toxoplasma gondi etc.(Parasitic diseases).
